Racing Tips by Rohan Skea This is not meant to be a complete section on racing tips but some sharing of experiences and learnings with respect to racing in the big league.Things can go very wrong without planning, information and knowledge. The plan or strategy for the race, up to date information about the track, the weather, competitors and then knowledge, so you know what to do with the information and how to fee it back into your own racing ecosystem. When I was involved with Skea Racing, the information and the decisions required could be overwhelming at times with so much at stake. Of all this experience I guess the following were the key things I thought were important for Skea Racing cars at all times and could neve be underestimated. - The biggest challenge of a racing team and race car driver is tyre management. Firstly getting cold slicks cooked in the warm up lap is a real skill, then reading the weather conditions, track temperatures, tyre performance and competitors to make sure you make the the right tyre decisions and maximising their performance takes real skill.
- Pit crews are critical. Pit crew training even more so. Training ensures they have a a tolerance to within around a minute to know exactly how long it takes to perform their allocated tasks
- In longer races, play to your drivers strengths if there is more than 1, who drives better in the dark, who drives in wet weather etc.
- Hydration is critical, but the trade off is weight to maximise top end. Every bit of weight counts
